As the separate genre it appears to develop there are no specific form, although virtually all of the divertimenti of the Second half of the 18th century last either back to a dance suite approach (derived from a 'ballet' nature and severity of theatrical serenade), or even require a form of more chamber music genres of their century (as a continuation of the merely subservient theatrical serenade). There are numerous more terms which describe music similar to the serenade, including serenade, cassation, notturno, Nachtmusik; fallowing astir 1780 a divertimento was the term virtually all usually applied to this weak, "after-dinner" & typically outdoor music. Serenade keep around from either a single to nine movements, & there exists at least a single lesson by owning long dozen. A earliest publication to utilise a title "divertimento" is by Carlo Grossi, in 1681, in Venice (''Il divertimento delaware' grandi: musiche district attorney camera, ò by the servizio di tavola) --& a hint that a serenade is to accompany "table service" applies to down the road ages too, since this lightly music was typically wont to accompany banquets & more social cases.

Mozart is known for having composed different types of divertimenti, for instance potentially ingesting the form of a little symphony (or, extra exactly: sinfonia), e.g. a Salzburg Symphonies KV 136-137-138. More composers of serenade include Leopold Mozart, Carl Stamitz, Haydn and Boccherini.

Two or three examples survive from either a 20th century, including works by Ferruccio Busoni, Béla Bartók, and Igor Stravinsky (from his ballet Le Baiser de la Fée).
